Every year I confirm why we give out laptop computers to all incoming freshman. The IT & University reasoning is for standardization to facilitate better support along with eliminating the need for public labs and greater confidence in what technology we can count on in Teaching & Learning. But the best reason is that the students and parents love it. And this love is based on the elimination of any stress related to making sure that a working computer is always available especially at those critical times when assignments are due. This year we also gave out an iPod Touch which really generated some buzz. Now I am ready to buy into the Turning Technologies classroom response systems.
