Start of a New Year

The start of classes in the Fall does take a toll on IT. We went into this New Year down a couple of people, working with a brand new ERP and changing our WiFi over to Radius authentication through Aruba. It has been a tough couple of weeks but all is working out just fine. There have been many good topics to blog about in the last month. The New York Times article, In a Digital Future, Textbooks Are History, generated a lot of discussion. H1N1 Flu virus has us all planning for increased absenteeism. And the usual debate over going to Cloud computing, Google or Microsoft. I’ll touch on some of those topics in future posts. But I’ll finish this post with a recap of our 11th annual Serve Day at GFU.

George Fox University totally shuts down so that all undergraduate students, faculty and staff are allowed to serve the surrounding communities. This works out to be about 1500 servants offering a solid 6 or 7 hours of hard work for about 60 different organizations. We ask for nothing, we just want to give back in a way that is representative of our Christian commitment. We start the day with Praise and Worship and end the day with a dinner, activities fair and carnival on the Quad. It was a great day.
